CHARACTER CREATION
Vampires are created as written starting on Pg. 80, V20 with a few additions. Here at ECN, it doesn't matter how old they are or the age they claim to be. They could have witnessed Jesus Christ be placed in the tomb or have been born during Prohibition. Your character's age doesn't have bearing on what their sheet says because they could sleep thru the ages in Torpor if they really wanted. Whatever age you want your character to be, run with it and make a kick as story to legitimize them. We also are accepting Ghouls & Revenants and use the corresponding book of the same title to create our characters with a few additions. You can find character creation for them on Pg. 116, Ghouls & Revenants. I don't expect a lot of Revenants to make an appearance, but the availability is there for someone. When making a character sheet online; please use the blank template provided in the House Rules section of the Forums. Additionally, please annotate what you used your Freebies and XP on. You must use Freebies before you round off a sheet with Experience Points. If it isn't listed below, we're not accepting Player Character (PC) creation for them. The exception to this are the Bloodlines that theoretically pass for the parent clans (Example: Mariner Variant Gangrel, Dominate focused Variant Malkavians, Auspex focused Ventrue Antitribu, Vizier or Sorcerer Variant Assamites) and make sense for the setting. These are variants that are not too far off from the parent Clan's concept. With that understanding, I have scaled back the Bloodlines I have allowed. By comparison; Bloodlines like the Angellis Ater, Kiasyd, Old Clan Tzimisce, True Brujah, Baali, Gargoyles, Daughter of Cacophony, Tlacique, or Samedi are outside the scope of what I am interested in seeing in my Chronicle right now for PC's. Later, if the population increases and I get a few more Storytellers on staff I can revisit this decision and see if I could be more relaxed with character creation. For now I would really like to focus on the primary thirteen Clans and their subtle variations. There will always be exceptions and asking the question is fine, but have realistic expectations that we are focusing on the pillar Clans of the Camarilla as the story first and everything else as secondary to support that story. What happens if a Clan is closed, but I make a Mortal and get embraced by that same closed Clan? You become a Caitiff, regardless of Generation. Anything with a LINE THROUGH IT is considered to be temporarily unavailable for play. Clans without a line through it are still open. Players who are interested in pursuing a concept in these limited slots should message the Storyteller with an interest and when the slot opens and becomes available you will be given the first notice to submit a character sheet for that slot. NOTE: Clan variants count against the total roles filled.We are not using Bearing or Secondary Abilities. Everything can be covered in the Primary Abilities listed on the sheet.
Players may only have ONE character per city in play for the Chronicle and are considered first come, first served based on the time stamp from the forums. Choose wisely.

DIVERSITY BONUS EXPERIENCE POINTS Every so often we get a surplus of concepts that drown out others. As a bonus to the concepts we need, we like to offer a "diversity" bonus to their Character Creation. This is in addition to the standard experience points granted (50 XP) at Character Creation. A lot of times, though, this diversity bonus will come with a stipulation or two that narrows down the type of concept we're looking to gain in you Chronicles. Above you will find which diversity bonuses are active and flag notes to guide you on conceptual design for those bonuses. - For these concepts we're looking for Camarilla aligned Ancillae concepts. That means that your Ancilla (Pg. 19, V20) is old enough and experienced enough to play the political games within the Camarilla. We want them to be politically ambitious going after titles and intelligent enough to hold their own within the Court. This type of concept is meant for Players who understand the Lore of the game well enough to portray a thriving Ancilla within the Camarilla. It isn't for "newly embraced" or "uneducated Kindred" concepts that don't have a firm grasp on politics. This includes Players who are not familiar enough with the game system's lore or conceptual design to accurately portray a Character of this station.
For the ease of creation on the Storyteller, please mark where you place your Freebie Points and Experience Points. Example: "Melee 5 (Staking)(2FP)(8XP)".
Whenever you're ready to submit a character; head on over to Character Sheet Submission and snag a template to fill out. When complete, hit "Create Thread" and post it up with your character's name and their primary city in parenthesis in the title. Example; "Snaggletooth von Bloodsucker (Detroit)".

Prioritize the three categories: Physical, Social, Mental (7/5/3). Your character automatically has one dot in each Attribute. Rate Physical Traits: Strength, Dexterity, Stamina. Rate Social Traits: Charisma, Manipulation, Appearance. Rate Mental Traits: Perception, Intelligence, Wits.
- Step Three: Select Abilities
Prioritize the three categories: Talents, Skills, Knowledges (13/9/5). Choose Talents, Skills, Knowledges. No Ability higher than 3 at this stage
- Step Four: Select Advantages
Choose Disciplines (3), Backgrounds (5), and rate Virtues (7). Your character automatically has one dot in each Virtue.
- Step Five: Finishing Touches
Record Humanity (equal to Conscience + Self-Control), Willpower (equal to Courage), and Blood Pool. If your character is on a Path, see Chapter Seven instead. Spend freebie points (15). Optional: Choose Merits and Flaws (Maximum 7 freebie points spent on Merits, but may have more than 7 points of Flaws with the understanding that you may not benefit from more than 7 points of freebies for those Flaws).
- Willpower costs 2 Freebie Points to raise instead of 1 and may not exceed Willpower 8. It cannot be increased with XP at Character creation.
- Generation costs 2 Freebie/Background Points to raise instead of 1 and cannot be increased with XP.
- A character’s Status is limited by what they purchase as available at Character Creation, +/-1. It costs 2 Freebie/Background Points instead of 1 to increase and cannot be increased with XP..
- New Characters gain 2 free Common Lores. (Clan, Sect, Kindred)
Abilities may be raised past Level 3 at this time with Freebies, or Experience Points. (Freebies must be spent before XP.) All characters are created with 50 Experience Points to round off their character and to represent their time before entering the Chronicle. While rollover XP is allowed to be used on your next character, active XP in your bank on Discord is not at character creation. This is for character advancement only. Spend any character loss rollover XP. All XP spent on character creation must be spent within 1XP leftover. That 1XP will be deposited onto the Discord bank. This is to prevent potential nerfing for free XP. If you opt to not use the XP (Because you want a younger character or something similar..) that is fine, but the same rules apply. We will deposit 1XP into your Discord Bank and ignore the rest of the unspent XP after asking one last time if there is anything you want to spend the XP on. As a reminder; you must use Freebies before allocating XP on your sheet.
Sabbat aligned characters will start out with four dots in Disciplines in lieu of taking any starting dots in Backgrounds according to Pg. 85, V20.
- Characters starting on Paths of Enlightenment start with the applicable Virtues for that Path in accordance with Pg. 315, V20 and may raise them normally with Virtue Points, Freebie Points, or Experience Points. Characters with 25 years experience as a Kindred or less may only have a Path rating of 5 or fewer. Characters with more than this prerequisite have no limitation. You must have Willpower 5 or more to have a Path at creation.
Characters may start the game with the eight common Disciplines (Animalism, Auspex, Celerity, Dominate, Fortitude, Potence, Presence, and Obfuscate) as out of Clan, but the Clan specific Disciplines (Chimerstry, Obtenebration, Protean, Quietus, and Vicissitude) must have a Mentor of that Clan on the sheet at the time of creation. Blood Magic is covered by our Merit, Blood Magic Access. Only one Clan specific Discipline may be taken as an out of Clan Discipline at Character creation.
You may only come into the Chronicle with as much equipment as your Resources rating (for a single month) allows you to acquire. The equipment must be Common. Having corresponding Allies will allow a Character to begin with Uncommon items.

- Caitiff have no Clan-based Disciplines, just as they have no Clan. For them, the cost of raising all Disciplines is the current rating x 6. This is both the curse and the blessing of being Clanless.
- Increasing a Virtue through experience does not increase Traits based on that Virtue (Humanity, Path, Willpower).
- Increasing Domain, Generation, or Status does not cost XP.
- If the Magic is in-Clan, then Rituals cost 2XP per level of the Ritual. If the Magic is out-of-Clan, but the Clan has an affinity for Magic, then Rituals cost 3XP per level of the Ritual (Non-Sorcerer Caste Assamites, Followers of Set, Lasombra, Tzimisce). For everyone else, Rituals cost 4XP per level of the Ritual.
- Common Lore costs 3XP. Uncommon Lore costs 6XP. Rare Lore costs 9XP for rare lore. Multiple Lores may be purchased and this Merit does not count against your 7 point Merit cap. If using Freebie Points at character creation; Lores cost 2FP for Common, 4FP for Uncommon, and 6FP for Rare Lore.

Dhampir's may not begin on a Path rating other than Humanity.

- Supernatural: Additional Discipline, Hidden Diablerie, Cast No Reflection, Touch of Frost, Eerie Presence, Lord of the Flies, Grip of the Damned
NOTE: We use the Weaknesses described in Ghouls & Revenants per Clan. For those bloodlines without a listed Weakness in the book; we'll cover those and establish a standard the moment we have a concept created representing them. These Weaknesses are all minor reflections of the parent Clan Flaw's and will be fairly considered upon creation. From that first creation; any other will be held to that standard.

- As a general rule, a Ghoul attains a cost break to learn the Disciplines of her sponsor’s Clan. A Revanant, on the other hand, earns a cost break on her family’s Disciplines. Independent Ghouls get a cost break on Celerity, Fortitude, and Potence.
- It is much more difficult for independent ghouls to learn Disciplines than any other ghoul or Revanant, and this is reflected in the cost required.
- Increasing a Virtue through experience does not increase Traits based on that Virtue (Humanity, Path, Willpower).
- If the Magic is in-Clan for the Domitor, then Rituals cost 2XP per level of the Ritual. If the Magic is out-of-Clan, but the Domitor's Clan has an affinity for Magic; then Rituals cost 3XP per level of the Ritual. (Non-Sorcerer Caste Assamites, Followers of Set, Lasombra, Tzimisce). For everyone else, including Independent Ghouls; Rituals cost 4XP per level of the Ritual.

- For standard Mortals without an institution aiding them, all Lore is considered Rare. Mortals with institutional support should talk to your Storyteller about what is considered Common, Uncommon, or Rare for your particular concept.

CHARACTER SHEET TEMPLATE Directions: - Login/Register out of Character access for the forums.
- Copy the template below.
- Press "Create Thread" in Character Sheet Submission.
- Name the new thread "Character's Name (City)", insert information as applicable.
- Paste the Character Sheet Template into the body of the new thread.
- Click on "BBC Code" and then immediately click "Preview" again for the format changes to take effect. The "<b>, </b>" will allow the text to become bold and format everything for me.
- Fill out the sheet according to our Character Creation instructions in accordance with local House Rules for Emerald City Nights. Note: Keep the Character Sheet format.
- Please use your Discord login name for the "Player" section.
- Replace the "#" with your rating.
- Please mark where you place your Freebie Points and Experience Points similar to the following example: "Melee 5 (Staking)(2FP)(8XP)" and not in a separate list.
- Click "Submit". We will receive a notification that a new Character has been submitted on the forums and will review it.
- If your Character has been approved, you will be notified on Discord. If your sheet needs edits (most of the do to conform to our style of roleplaying), you will see a reply on the thread you submitted.
